Kandhamal: Maoists on Saturday allegedly killed a couple at Salaguda village under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district suspecting them to be police informers.
The deceased have been identified as Dahira Kanhar (husband) and Batasi Kanhar (wife).
According to sources, both the husband and wife were asleep when the rebels reportedly picked them up from their house at 2 am on Friday. Their bodies are found lying in a nearby jungle on Saturday morning.
It is suspected that the ultras might have killed them brutally suspecting them to be police informers before dumping their bodies in the forest.
On the other hand, it is learnt that both the husband and wife were involved in ganja cultivation. It is presumed that the red rebels might have gunned down the couple over some dispute pertaining to ganja cultivation.
The bodies of the couple are still lying in the forest as police officials have not reached the spot since the filing of the report.
The incident has sent shockwaves in the locality that villagers have become very scared. They don’t have the courage to go to the forest to seize the bodies.
