Nabarangpur: Outlawed Maoist activists have allegedly killed a villager on the suspicion of being a police informer. The incident occurred at Khalepara village under Raighar block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Chandan Mallick (42).

Police said that more than 25 Maoist cadres reached the village at around 9.00 pm on Thursday and forcibly took Chandan to a nearby field. The outlaws tied the victim’s hands and thrashed him mercilessly. Later, they strangled Chandan with a rope killing him on the spot.

While leaving the village, the Maoists left posters stating that the Nabarangpur SP, Chhattisgarh Police and Intelligence Department were responsible for Chandan’s death.

The extremists’ posters also mentioned that Chandan was informing police about their movements and activities and was earlier served a warning at a ‘Jan Adalat’ (people’s court). However, he continued to work as a police informer and, hence, he was given the death penalty, the poster read.

Raighar police have recovered the body and started an investigation into the incident.
