**Malkangiri**: In what could be called an attempt to threaten the common people and police, Maoists on Thursday released a video which was recorded in 2009 when the red rebels brutally killed 29 police personnel in an ambush, including the then Rajnadgaon district SP Vinod Kumar Chaubey in Chhattisgarh.
The video footage, which the Naxals claim was shot during the encounter, shows one Maoist recording while others are on a killing spree leaving 29 security personnel shot dead on the spot.
It may be recalled here that, on July 12, 2009 at around 7 in the morning, Vinod Kumar Choubey, SP of Rajnandgaon received a message that the naxalites have attacked Madanwara outpost under Manpur PS limits in the district and have killed two policemen.
Sensing the serious consequences of the incident, Choubey and the IGP rushed to the spot from their respective headquarters. En route, Shri Choubey’s carcade was ambushed by the naxalites near the Manpur police station. However, he kept moving and instructed the Manpur PS ASI to come in a mine proof vehicle (MPV) with additional force. The naxalites had laid fresh road blocks. Shri Choubey cleared the blocks and bravely reached the site where a fierce fighting was going on between the police and ultras.
The emboldened policemen opened fire and continued the attack. A fierce battle ensued. Choubey fought heroically with iron determination and raw grit and ultimately made the supreme sacrifice of his life at the altar of duty.
For his exceptional quality of leadership and bravery the Government of India had awarded Kirti Chakra, posthumously.
