Bhubaneswar: Serial conman Satyajit Managovind Samal who was arrested for marrying five women and duping them of lakhs of rupees apart from flirting with 49 other women will go on a two-day remand from today.
According to sources, Capital police had sought a 10-day remand, but the court granted only two days.
It is pertinent to mention that Satyajit was arrested on August 3. Hailing from Jajpur, he used to deceive women by posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer on a matrimonial website to lure victims.
Satyajit’s modus operandi was to marry women, extract money from them, and then abandon them. He would then transfer the money abroad, mostly to Dubai, to avoid detection.
The police are now investigating the extent of Satyajit’s crimes and how many more women he may have duped. They are also trying to trace the money he had transferred abroad, sources said.
His scams came to the fore after two victims filed complaints against Samal at the Capital Police station, revealing that he had duped them of Rs 44 lakh, a car, and a bullet.
Samal, who was staying at Chandrasekhapur in the Capital city, had duped the first victim to the tune of Rs 36 lakh and a car and the second woman to the tune of Rs 8 lakh and a bullet.
