Gang rape

Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, five miscreants allegedly gang-raped a woman after beating her husband in a forest at Baruana under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district.

According to police, the woman who was staying at a private hostel for her study in Dhenkanal, was returning home with her husband on account of Dussehra festival.

On her way, five miscreants intercepted the couple and picked her up to a nearest cashew forest after thrashing her husband severely. Later, they sexually assaulted her one after another, police added.

The miscreants also snatched a mobile phone and cash from the couple, she alleged.

Police detained two of the suspects and launched a manhunt to nab others.

The survivor lodged a complaint with the police.

“Based on her report, we have registered a case and launched an investigation accordingly. The accused have been identified. Two of them have been detained while the search is on to nab others. The vehicle used in the crime has been tracked. We will seize the vehicle today,” Dhenkanal SP Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra said.

“The investigation is in the preliminary stage. We have not yet received the medical examination report. All the accused will be put behind bars soon,” Mohapatra added.
