Bhubaneswar: A shocking incident occurred in Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district, where a 45-year-old married woman, mother of four, poisoned her lover’s fiancée during his ring ceremony.
The accused woman, who had left her husband and children for the 27-year-old youth, alleged that he had cheated on her.
According to reports, the woman had been in a relationship with the youth for over a year and had been visiting her regularly. She claimed that he had promised to marry her, which prompted her to abandon her family. However, the youth recently decided to marry another girl from Damarpur village. The decision irked the woman who took the drastic step.
During the ring ceremony, the accused woman mixed poison in a cold drink and offered it to the fiancée, who fell ill and lost consciousness after consuming it. The victim was rushed to Pattamundai Medical and later shifted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The accused woman was beaten severely by villagers. On being informed, police rescued her from the irate villagers. She is currently being interrogated and has confessed to the crime, stating that she had intended to poison her lover, but ended up giving the poisoned drink to his fiancée instead.
The accused woman alleged that her lover had cheated on her and ruined her life.
“My motive was to poison him, but inadvertently, I gave the poison to his fiancée. He spoiled my life by ditching me after we were in a relationship for 15-16 months. I left my husband and children for him,” the accused woman said.
Police are investigating the matter.
