Bhubaneswar: The body of Odia jawan Saroj Kumar Das, who died in Sikkim flash flood in the line of duty, today reached Bhubaneswar in a special aircraft.
Many dignitaries including Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and several senior officers of BSF paid last respects to the departed soul at the airport.
Public Works Department Minister and local MLA Prafulla Mallik, Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahu also paid floral tributes to the martyr.
A guard of honour was also accorded to the slain jawan, who is a resident of Kendudhipa village under Kamakhya Nagar police limits in Dhenkanal.
His body will be taken to his native village in a procession. His last rites will be performed at his village cremation ground with full state honour.
Saroj was among the 23 soldiers who went missing in the flash floods in Sikkim. Later, his body was found. His family members identified him through a video conference.
Saroj had married seven months ago. He served as a havildar in the Indian Army. He had been recruited in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) wing of the Indian army in 2012
