Boudh: Panic gripped Champapur village under the Boudh Adarsha Police Station limits in Boudh district after four masked dacoits carried out an armed robbery at a residence late at night, on Wednesday looting gold jewellery and cash at gunpoint.

The incident occurred at the house of one Sitaram Meher, where the miscreants reportedly barged in while the family members were present. According to sources, the dacoits, armed with pistols and sharp weapons, threatened the inmates and ransacked the house. The terrified family members were forced to hand over valuables as the criminals held them at gunpoint.

The accused decamped with approximately 60 grams of gold jewellery and ₹1.5 lakh in cash, as stated by the family. No physical injuries were reported, but the incident has left the residents shaken.

The robbery comes close on the heels of another dacoity case in the same police station area, which is still under investigation. Despite police efforts to trace the accused in the earlier case, no breakthrough has been reported so far. The latest incident, occurring barely a day after the previous one, has intensified concerns over rising crime in the region.

Locals have expressed apprehension over the increasing incidents of theft and dacoity, particularly targeting elderly residents. The consecutive crimes have raised serious questions about security arrangements and the effectiveness of policing in the area.

Meanwhile, the Adarsha Police Station has launched an investigation into the latest dacoity. Police officials have stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. However, as of now, no arrests have been made.
