Sundargarh: Masked miscreants shot dead one goat trader and looted Rs 9 lakh near Tarini temple between Chattenpali and Suruguda under Lefripada police station limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district in the early hours of Thursday.
According to reports, three goat traders Saradhapali area under Bhasma police station limits in the district were on their way to the Handipani goat market on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on a motorbike around 5.00 am on Thursday. They were carrying money to purchase goats.
When the traders reached the Tarini temple, they were confronted by three masked miscreants on a motorbike. The miscreants asked the traders to stop and hand over their money to them. As the traders refused to oblige, the miscreants kicked the former’s motorbike and the traders fell to the ground. One of the traders collected the bag containing the money and tried to run away. He was, however, shot down by the miscreants, who fled the spot with the bag.
The police rescued the three traders and took them to a nearby hospital. One of the traders died on the way to the hospital, while two others sustained minor injuries and are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, police and a scientific team reached the crime spot and started an investigation.
