Cuttack: One person died after falling into an open drain in Mahima Nagar area of Cuttack’s Nua Bazaar late Wednesday night.
The deceased, a resident of Jajpur, was working as a mason in Cuttack. He fell into the open drain as the drain was left uncovered for ongoing construction work in the locality. He fell into the narrow drain and drowned when he was on his way home.
Locals spotted his body floating in the drain on Thursday morning and informed police who eventually fished out the body from the drain.
The mason’s death sparked tension in the locality as locals held the district administration responsible for such a mishap.
Though such occurrences have become regular affairs in the Silver City, the district administration is yet to come up with necessary measures to avoid the recurrence of such mishaps, alleged residents of Nua Bazaar.
