Bhubaneswar: A 20-foot-long King Cobra was rescued from the SSD Higher Secondary School premises in Rayagada block of Gajapati district on Wednesday evening.
The snake, which had been roaming around the school premises for several days, entered a classroom on Wednesday evening. It was when the school staff quickly locked the door to prevent it from escaping.
As per reports, members of the Snake Helpline from Chikiti in Ganjam district, Ramachandra Sahu and Jagannath Sahu, were called in to rescue the snake. The snake was locked for three hours until the Snake Helpline members arrived. It took them around 30 minutes to capture the massive reptile successfully.
A large crowd gathered at the school to witness the intimidating serpent, which was hissing loudly as the rescuers worked to subdue it. Once safely captured, the King Cobra was released into its natural habitat in a secluded area.
The Snake Helpline team were lauded for their bravery and expertise in handling the situation, ensuring the safety of both the students and the snake.
