Bhubaneswar: At least 10 fishing boats were destroyed after a major fire broke out at the Neheru Bangala Fishing Harbour in Paradip. No casualties have been reported in the major fire accident.

The fire started with one boat and gradually spread to others. Its intensity made it difficult to contain. Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade arrived at the Paradip Nehru Bengal Fishing Jetty to extinguish the fire. Eight fire teams reached the spot and began operations to put out the blaze.

The situation is expected to worsen due to the presence of many more boats on the jetty. The cause of the fire at the fishing jetty remains unclear. Police from five police stations in Paradip have also arrived at the scene and are monitoring the situation.

“Additional SP, Kujanga IIC, and the local fire officer reached the spot and are monitoring the situation. Fire tenders from Kujanga, Tirtol, IOCL, IFFCO, PPT, and PPL, among others, have been mobilized. Water and foam are being used to contain the blaze. The situation is under control, with no panic situation reported. Some boats were partially burnt, but fortunately, no casualties occurred in the accident,” said an official.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, and a technical team will investigate the cause tomorrow, the official added.
