Jeypore (Koraput): Police claimed to have exposed a massive cyber fraud with the arrest of three fraudsters on charges of cheating and opening bank accounts providing false documents in Koraput district.
The arrested accuseds are Balaram Das of Semiliguda, Satya Ranjan Sahu of Bhubaneswar and Rajiv Kumar Prasad. Police also seized cheque books, ATM cards, printers, laptops, tabs, biometric devices, mobile phones, two-wheelers, counting machines and cash worth Rs 23,500 from their possession.
According to police, the three accused used to open current accounts in people’s names by taking Aadhaar cards and other documents from them by promising them to facilitate loans. Later, they collected the cheque books, ATM cards and the SIM card linked to the account from them. They were giving these accounts to cyber fraudsters who used the accounts to commit cybercrime.
Crores of rupees have been transacted in these accounts, Police said. A special police team has been formed to nab the mastermind, they added.
