Massive Fire Engulfs Nalco’s Captive Power Plant In Angul

Angul: A massive fire broke out at the Captive Power Plant (CPP) of the Central Government-owned National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) at Nalconagar here on Tuesday.

While no loss of life or injury reported, the inferno has caused extensive damage.

According to reports, a major fire broke out at the 8th unit of the CPP at around 2 PM.

The fire first broke out in the barrel outside the unit and later spread to the generator transformer and other areas of the plant reducing assets worth lakhs to ashes.

The generator transformer which has suffered extensive damage is valued at Rs 15 crore.

The blaze could be brought under control after around 8-10 fire engines of NALCO’s own fire fighting service were pressed into.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
