Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out in a medicine godown in Mancheswar industrial estate here on Sunday night. While property (reportedly drugs) worth several lakh rupees was gutted in the blaze, no casualty was reported.
At about 11:15 pm on Sunday night, the incident occurred triggering panic among residents and commercial establishment owners in Mancheswar and neighbouring Rasulgarh as a thick blanket of smoke engulfed the area.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. However, the intensity of the flames was so high that it took the fire personnel around seven hours to douse the fire, Deputy Fire Officer Abani Kumar Swain said.
“As many as seven fire engines were pressed into service to control the situation. At around 6:30 am in the morning, after a seven-hour ordeal, the blaze has been completely doused. The exact cause behind the fire is being ascertained,” Swain added.
