Bhadrak: A major fire broke out in Mohanty Sahi in Balimeda panchayat of Basudevpur in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late Wednesday night reducing 46 houses to ashes. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, 22 families in the area were seriously affected by the inferno. These families lost everything from their homes to other belongings.
The fire started late Wednesday night at Harihar Sahoo’s house when everyone was sleeping. Noticing the smoke, Sahoo’s neighbours raised an alarm. But they could do little to douse the fire and soon it engulfed the whole area. All the families rushed out of their burning houses to save their lives getting no chance to save their belongings.
The fire quickly spread to the neighbouring houses and within mere minutes, 46 houses were turned to ashes.
On being informed, Fire department personnel reached the spot and fought for over seven hours to bring the fire under control.
