Bhawanipatna: In a devastating car accident, two persons including minor boy died after a car in which they were travelling fell into a canal at Thelko Munda near Jaipatna in Kalahandi district on Wednesday.
The mishap occurred while a family of 11 was returning from a matrimonial visit. Three others of the family were seriously injured. The victims, Laldhar Rout (82) and a 5-year-old boy, succumbed to their injuries in the incident.
According to reports, the family, belonging to Rengapali village in Jaiapatna block, had travelled to Nuagaon in Kalampur block to see a bride for marriage. However, their return journey took a disastrous turn when the vehicle lost control and plunged into a canal near Thelko Munda.
Locals rushed to the scene and rescued the family members, while the Jayapatna Fire Department arrived later to recover the body of the missing child. The injured have been admitted to the Jaiapatna Community Health Center for treatment.
