Baripada: The mystery behind the sensational kidnapping of prominent Mayurbhanj businessman Sunil Agrawal has been fully cracked, with police arresting six accused, including the alleged mastermind.
A Test Identification (TI) Parade of the two main accused was conducted inside Baripada Jail on Friday, sources confirmed.
According to police, the businessman from Baripada was lured to NH-18 near Baisinga under the pretext of being shown a plot of land. Once he arrived, he was forcibly kidnapped, and the abductors demanded a ransom of ₹80 lakh. The incident triggered widespread fear and shock across the region.
Acting swiftly, police apprehended all six individuals involved in the conspiracy. During the investigation, law enforcement recovered three luxury cars, two motorcycles, four Telenga knives, and ₹9 lakh out of the ₹40 lakh ransom amount already collected by the accused.
Preliminary findings revealed that the kidnapping plot was hatched by people known to the businessman, reportedly over disputes related to land transactions. The police took the prime accused—identified as Raja alias Rajesh Barik—on remand and recreated the crime scene as part of the probe, Baishinga police said.
With permission obtained from the Betnoti JMFC Court, officials conducted the TI Parade inside the Baripada jail complex today. The complainant successfully identified the accused involved in the crime, police confirmed, adding that this marks a significant step toward securing convictions in the case.
