Mayurbhanj Cop’s High-Handedness: Youth Sustains Severe Eye Injury During Helmet Checking

Baripada: A youth of this district headquarters town of Mayurbhanj has to pay a heavy price for not wearing helmet as he sustained severe injury in his eye allegedly being beaten by the police personnel during helmet checking.

The injured youth, identified as Sipu Das of Ward No 25 under the Baripada Municipality limits, has been admitted to PRM Medical College and Hospital here.

On the other hand, Mayurbhanj SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas has assured to take stringent action against the guilty cop after enquiry. He also assured that the department will bear all the medical expenses of the injured youth undergoing treatment.

Such an inhumane act of the district police has raised the hackles of the townsfolk here.
As per reports, the police personnel were on their usual helmet and document checking near the Palabani bypass when Sipu Das got caught. He was returning home from Station Bazaar after purchasing medicine as he was unwell. He pleaded that he forgot to wear helmet in a hurry.

When he was parking his bike on the roadside, a constable allegedly tried to hit him on his head. But, the baton instead of hitting the head, hit the eye and it started bleeding profusely. The deployed police personnel then allowed Sipu to go home. As the condition deteriorated, Sipu got admitted to the eye ward of PRM Medical College and Hospital.
