Baripada: A special fast-track court in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday sentenced a 61-year-old man, Jatia Mahanta of Ambapunja village under Chandua police station limits, to life imprisonment after convicting him in a rape case.
Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak, also imposed a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional six months of imprisonment in case of default in payment.
The incident took place in 2023, when Chandua police arrested Mahanta following allegations of rape. He was subsequently produced before the court, and the case was prosecuted by public prosecutor Manoranjan Patnaik.
