Bhubaneswar: In a bid to preserve and promote the rich heritage of local handicrafts, the Tourism Department has sanctioned the development of Guhaldiha village under Baripada Block of Mayurbhanj district, as an ‘Integrated Art and Craft Village.’ This initiative is aimed at creating a vibrant platform to showcase the region’s traditional craftsmanship and tribal culture.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Tourism portfolio, announced the development plan via the social media platform X.
She highlighted that this project will provide tourists visiting Mayurbhanj, particularly those en route to Similipal National Park, an opportunity to witness firsthand the intricate craftwork produced by local artisans.
“This effort will bring to life the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign and will help promote the art and handicrafts of the district. As a result of this initiative, the economic and social development of local artisans can be accelerated,” the Deputy Chief Minister’s post read.
The Integrated Art and Craft Village is envisioned not only as a tourist attraction but also as a center for cultural exchange and preservation, helping sustain the livelihoods of tribal artisans while sharing their unique traditions with a wider audience.
