Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown, Jashipur Police officials of Mayurbhanj district, on Saturday, seized a massive quantity of contraband ganja and arrested three individuals in connection with the crime.
According to the police, the seizure was made on July 20, 2024, during a day patrolling duty in the Jashipur PS area. The police team, led by SI T.R. Sethy, received a tip-off about the illegal transportation of ganja in a white Hyundai Aura car bearing registration number OD-02-CG-6821, escorted by a white Maruti Suzuki Fronx car (OD-02-CL-3577), on NH-49.
After a chase, both vehicles were apprehended near Masinabilla village, and a search and seizure operation was conducted as per provisions of the NDPS Act in the presence of Miss Crecencia Tirkey, Tahsildar and independent witnesses. The police found 113 sealed packets containing 111.87 kilograms of contraband ganja.
The accused persons, identified as Sidheswar Sahoo (28), Abhaya Rout (28), and Nirakar Sahu (28), all residents of Cuttack district, were arrested and confessed to transporting the ganja from Angul to Bisoi, procured from Boudh area.
The seizure includes two vehicles, three smartphones, one PAN card, one Aadhaar card, one driving license, one SBI global ATM card, and cash worth ₹3,000.
The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
