Bhubaneswar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has allowed Odisha to increase MBBS intake in Government medical colleges with 100 additional seats. The MCI decision came in order to accommodate the students eligible for admission under Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.
With the MCI’s approval the new number of MBBS seats in Odisha (Government Medical Colleges) will be 1,150 from the academic year 2019-20.
Under the EWS quota, the additional seats, 25 each, were allotted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, Baripada and Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput.
With this, the intake capacity of each of these two institutions has gone up to 125.
Similarly, the MCI has approved 50 additional seats for Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. With this, the institute now has 200 MBBS seat for admission.
