MCL Employee Dies On Duty In Odisha's Jharsuguda

Brajarajnagar: A 55-year-old man died after being trapped in the conveyor belt at Hirakhand Bundia Coal Mine, a unit of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), under Brajarajnagar police limits of Jharsuguda district today.

The deceased identified as Dinabandhu Kanji, a resident of Talcher, was working as the conveyor belt operator in the mine. Today at around 9:30 am, he got trapped in the belt after switching it on. As no other employee was present nearby to pull the emergency cord switch, he died on the spot.

Tension prevailed in the area over the incident. Brajarajnagar police reached the spot to bring the situation under control. Police has also recovered Dinabandhu’s body for post-mortem.

MCL's Public Relations Officer Vinayak D N S Jamwal informed compensation along with employment, as per the stipulated rules, will be provided to the next of kin of Dinabandhu.

Rampur Police Out Post-in-charge Rabi Narayan Bhainsa informed, "The tense situation is under control now. Body has been recovered and will be sent for post mortem after arrival of the family members of deceased. An unnatural death case has been registered at the Brajarajnagar Police Station."
