**Koraput:** M. Maheswari, the first female bus conductor of Koraput district, is an epitome of good conduct and sweet disposition. Serving the passengers properly is her motto, and the women travellers feel more secure in her presence.
CM Navin Patnaik had inaugurated the city bus service in Koraput district through video conferencing on 30th June. Initially 20 buses were launched, and more 80 buses will be deployed to run across various parts of the district. It will also cover the Naxal affected regions, thereby facilitating people from all walks of life to enjoy the services.
“Though women have taken up different professions, this profession has not yet been encouraged. So I have taken up this to motivate others,”said M.Maheswari.
“My parents and friends have also supported me in this endeavour. Though I belong to a tribal pocket, I have completed my +2 in Commerce and taken up this job,”she added.
” We were astonished to see a female conductor. Girls in these areas seldom step out of their houses. To see a lady taking up this challenging job of a conductor is really praiseworthy, ” remarked a passenger of her bus..
“Women conduct their services better than their male counterparts,” said another co-passenger.
” Women are caught up in the family’s web, and it is very difficult for them to set themselves free. The world around has developed so much, and to catch up the pace, women should venture out. They should not be lagging behind the men. Women should not be considered as a burden to their families, rather should act as an asset,” said a retired professor, Dr. Pramodini Hota.
