**Bhubaneswar:** Three bike-borne youths came, waylaid a girl, snatched her mobile phone, necklace and money purse and sped their vehicle but the girl chased, hit them from rear and then thrashed them in front of hundreds of onlookers before forcing them to leave behind the looted items and their motorcycle. This seems like a script of a Bollywood film but it’s NOT. It happened here in the heart of Capital City and the ‘Akira’ girl won hearts of many and an award for her inspiring act.
Chinmayee Bhuyan, a college-going girl and Karate practitioner at city-based Utkal Karate School in Kharvel Nagar here followed and thrashed the three youths who had looted her when she was returning from her Karate school on Sunday morning.
Speaking to Ommcom News, the brave hearted girl Chinmayee said: “At around 8.30 pm on Sunday, she was returning from Utkal Karate School, when she was intercepted by three bike-borne youths bike. They snatched my mobile and purse started to sped away but I followed them and hit their bike from behind.”
She managed to catch up with the looters near Market Building and thrash the trio in front of hundreds of onlookers. Though two of the looters managed to flee from the spot she managed to grab the third looter with the help of the locals.
She recovered the looted items from the looters possession. But in the melee the third looter too managed to shove her and flee from the spot leaving behind the bike.
For her brave act, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday felicitated her and said she is an example for other girls in the city.
“ Chinmayee Bhuyan, who is taking Karate training at Utkal Karate School, yesterday thrashed three chain snatchers at Market Building area when they misbehaved with her. I wish other girls also take notice and learn from this brave heart,” said BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
Chinmayee also batted for a self defence class in schools and colleges like other subjects, so that the students become courageous and the self defence techniques come to rescue during times of distress.
Needless to say, this is a lesson for the other women folk and girls who often remain silent after falling victims to different criminal incidents in the Capital City.
