**Bhubaneswar: ** Astronomers of Space Telescope Science Institute (STSI), US, led by an Odia scientist, Kailash Sahu has validated Einstein’s Theory of Relativity by measuring the mass of a star far beyond our galaxy.
Sahu, with his team used the Hubble Space Telescope and calculated that the mass of a nearby white dwarf star is estimated to be roughly 68 percent of our Sun.
Sahu and his team searched more than 5,000 stars for the right alignment that would help them weigh a star — and picked the white dwarf located 17 light years away.
Notably, Sahu is from Bellagam village in Ganjam. He studied in the village school and from there he went to Berhampur University, IIT Kharagpur and prominent universities abroad, finally becoming a NASA leader in new space discovery.
He is also known as the Planet Hunter by astronomers across the world after he discovered 16 new planets in 2006.
