Bhubaneswar: A magician performing his tricks on stage is something which appeals to everyone. The amazing illusion acts fill us with delight, and to witness any magical trick enthralls all. Odisha’s magician Bishnu Prasad notched limelight when he enchanted the audience of India’s Got Talent Season 8 by almost battering Karan Johar’s phone to pieces and then pulling it out whole, unscathed.

This act was complimented by the judge as one of the best magic act he has ever witnessed, and sent him directly to the semi-finals of the show. He also scared Malaika Arora by making her smpty a cup of juice on her head, which magically turned out to be empty.

Originally hailing from Dhenkanal, a nondescript town in Odisha, Bishnu was always fascinated towards magic since his very childhood.

“During my school days, magicians used to come and perform in front of the students. It always mesmerized me. My first brush with this art form was when my grandfather handed me a book on magic tricks when I was in school. I started to gather props after that and used to practice the tricks,” recalled Bishnu.

After completing his school, he dropped out of college and went to Mumbai to try his luck in film editing at Mumbai.

Talking to OMMCOM NEWS, he said, “I used to perform small stage shows there to survive as nothing came out in Bollywood. After some time, I returned and completed my studies in Bhubaneswar. I even did a course in Media and Communication but magic continued to allure me. I honed up my magic skills, learnt professional magic from Sukesh Pattanik and Santosh Choudhury in the capital city. I mastered the art of close-up magic otherwise known as street magic. Some friends encouraged me to display my tricks in the reality show and that’s it,”

He has mastered his magic by using playing cards, balls, coins etc. And his most fascinating aspect is that he has no airs or look of a normal magician. He has no hat, long sleeved magician’s coat, but seems like a boy next door.

Prior to IGT, he worked in various hotels of Bhubaneswar as a magician to eke out a living since 2009.He also performed on regional TV shows.

The USP of this Odisha based magician is that he keeps on updating himself with the latest tricks of magic.

“After learning the basic skills of magic, I now update myself by reading various books by other magicians. The normal conjuring tricks are deemed to be boring nowadays, so I try to develop new tricks to grip the attention of the audience,” .

Watching a magician perform may look glamourous on stage, but there is much more to it. All praises to this Odisha magician for making it so far! The people of Odisha hope that he not only stages a fabulous show in IGT but reaches the finals and also win this season of the reality show.
