Mentally Challenged Woman Raped Over 1 Year: Sundergarh Police Arrests 8 Accused

Bhubaneswar: In connection with the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman, Sundergarh police have arrested eight persons.

Suprintendent of Police Sagarika Nath constituted a special team led by IUCAW DSP Gurubari Hemram to investigate the case.

The incident was reported in a location under Hatibari police limits on October 13. According to the complaint, the victim was raped over one year by three persons.

“The woman, 19 years old, is pregnant now. The accused have been booked under Sections 376 (2)(l)(n), 376-D of the Indian Penal Code,” a senior police official said.

The team led by Hembram comprised Biramitrapur SDPO, a sub-inspector and four ASIs. The team carried out raids in at multiple places to apprehend the accused who are in the age group of 18 to 35, the official added.

“The investigation in this case is in progress and involvement of other persons is being ascertained,” the police added.
