Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha on Saturday. However, while there was little drop in the gruelling heat in coastal areas of the State, areas in the western part of the State singed.
According to the evening weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) regional centre here, as many as 25 places recorded a maximum day temperature of 40°C or more. With a maximum temperature of 44°C Boudh and Nuapada were the hottest places in the State.
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded maximum temperatures of 39°C and 39.7°C respectively.
The IMD in its maximum temperature forecast has said that there shall be no large change in maximum day temperature during the next two days and fall by 3-5°C thereafter at many places over the district of Odisha.
The IMD has further predicted abatement in heatwave from 6th May and thunderstorms with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind likely over districts of Odisha.
