Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha continues to singe under severe heatwave conditions, at least 26 places in the state recorded maximum temperatures (day temperatures) of 40°C or more on Sunday. According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Titilagarh was the hottest place in the state with a temperature of 45°C.
This aside, the mercury shot up to 43°C or more in at least 12 locations in Odisha today. The day temperatures in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were 39.9°C and 38.5°C.
The state has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions starting from April 15. As of Sunday, Odisha has been reeling under an intense heatwave for 21 days. Bolangir, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Boudh districts experienced the maximum summer heat today.
However, the weather office has forecasted that thunderstorms and rain accompanied by lightning are likely to bring down the mercury from Monday.
