Bhubaneswar: While it is still February, the weather in Odisha is akin to that in summer. The mercury has already crossed 35°C in several places in the state on Tuesday.
The same trend continued on Wednesday as the mercury crossed 20°C in eight places in Odisha around 8.30 am. Places that have been experiencing scorching heat include Puri (25.4°C), Paradip (24°C), Chandali (22.2°C), Gopalpur (22.2°C), Jajpur (22°C), Bhubaneswar (21.5°C), Balasore (21.4°C), and Cuttack (21°C).
According to the weather office, the maximum temperatures (day temperatures) are likely to increase by 5°C to 6°C during the next few days.
Meanwhile, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has predicted that the weather is likely to change in the state after Thursday. Some places in north interior Odisha may experience light rain/thundershower under the influence of western disturbances till February 26 and the intensity of rain is likely to be the highest on February 24.
Light to moderate rain is likely to occur especially in south coastal Odisha, including Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Boudh.
