Bhubaneswar: The hot condition continues to prevail in several parts of the State as the temperature touched 40 degrees Celsius on Friday at five places in Odisha for the first time this summer.
The mercury also witnessed a sharp rise at several places.
The places that witnessed 40 degrees C temperature are Titilagarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Bhawanipatna, Nayagarh.
Five places recorded above 39 degrees Celcius with Angul and Jharsuguda reporting 39.1 degrees C each.
Talcher sizzled at 39.8 degrees C while Phulbani reported 39.2. Similarly, Mercury touched 39.
The temperature will see a gradual rise by 2 Degrees C in the next 48 hours at many places over the State and no large change thereafter, the IMD said.
The minimum night temperature is also likely to rise by 2-3 degrees C during the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD added.
