Nuapada: Police have launched a probe into the death of a newborn that allegedly died in a Shramik special train that had left from Uttar Pradesh on June 15 and had reached Khariar Road railway station in Nuapada district of Odisha on Wednesday.
Reportedly, Tularam Pande and his wife Chaturbai Pande are residents of Garhphuljhar village under Basna police limits of Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh and were working at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Chaturbai had given birth to the baby on June 14 and had boarded the train on the next day to reach their home State. That night, the baby fell ill but they did not inform anyone out of fear which led to the death of the child.
The couple was supposed to get down at Bagbahra railway station in Chhattisgarh but since the train did not stop, they arrived at Khariar Road railway station from where they were escorted to the TMC at National College Nuapada.
It was after the body of the child started emitting foul smell, the incident came to light. Personnel from Jonk Police Station reached the centre, seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. Following it a probe was initiated into the case.
