Bhubaneswar: Winter has set across Odisha with the minimum temperatures (night temperatures) dropping to 15°C in several areas during the last 24 hours under the influence of dry air flowing from the north-northwest direction. Overall, the night temperature dropped by 2°C-3°C during this period suggesting that colder nights are ahead.
According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 9.4°C, while 17 places recorded nighttime temperatures of below 15°C. Similarly, Daringibadi and Phulbani in Kandhamal district registered minimum temperatures of 9.5°C and 10°C respectively.
The IMD said that while dry weather is likely to prevail in most parts of Odisha during the remaining days of the week, the minimum temperature is likely to drop by 2°C -4°C. Cold and dry winds blowing from the north-northwest will intensify the cold during this winter season. The impact of winter is likely to prevail across Odisha till December 15 and, thereafter, both the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to rise across the state.
On Tuesday, the minimum temperatures recorded in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were 14.6°C and 14.5°C respectively.
At the same time, the weather office has forecast the occurrence of shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in interior Odisha.
