Minister Demands More Projects For Empowerment Of Disabled Persons In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: State Minister for Social Security and Empowerment of PWDs, Ashok Chandra Panda while attending the third meeting of the Central Advisory Board on Disability in New Delhi on Thursday demanded to establish two Early Childhood Rehabilitation Centres in Odisha along with a Centre for Disability Sports in Bhubaneswar.

Panda also demanded the Centre to take immediate action on the proposal sent by his department in 2018-19 to sanction three more District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRC) in State.

During the meeting he highlighted on the progress in issuance of Universal Disability Identity Card (UDID) in the State and also on the initiative to construct ramps at all government institutions in Odisha to be made accessible for disabled people under the Accessible India Campaign.

Under the campaign, construction of ramps has been completed at 117 out of 203 identified buildings in State Capital. The project cost was met from the State budget for access by PWDs.

Panda also informed that his department has engaged Society for Social Audit, Accountability and Transparency (OSSAAT) for social audit. Government of Odisha has already framed Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2018 and state advisory board has been constituted. Disability Pension in the State has made a remarkable progress, he added.
