Cuttack: State Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has assured that various problems plaguing the Excise Department will be resolved soon. He made the announcement during a high-level review meeting of the Excise Department held at the department’s headquarters in Cuttack.
Harichandan emphasised that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent illegal and fraudulent transactions in the state. He also directed that Excise Department meetings will be held every three months to review progress.
The minister reviewed the government’s excise policy and activities, and assured that vacant posts in the Excise Department will be filled soon. Currently, there are 46 sanctioned Superintendent of Police (SP) posts in the state, with 33 districts designated as Excise districts. However, only 22 SPs are currently working in these posts.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Excise Department, including Additional Commissioner Dharmendra Mallick, Principal Secretary Guha Punam, and District Excise Superintendent Karuna Tiwari. Harichandan’s directives aim to strengthen the Excise Department’s functioning and curb illicit activities in the state.
