Bhubaneswar: School & Mass Education Minister Sudam Marndi has been given additional charge of Revenue & Disaster Management Department soon after senior BJD MLA Pramila Mallik resigned from the post.

Mallik submitted her resignation to the Chief Minister after BJD named her as its candidate for the post of Speaker in the Odisha Legislative  Assembly. Later she filed her nomination as a candidate for the post of Speaker in Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Earlier too, the department was with  Marndi.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Marndi is a strong factor in Mayurbhanj politics. He started his political career with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He was twice elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and once to the Lok Sabha as JMM candidate.

Later after joining Biju Janata Dal (BJD), he was twice elected to the Assembly from Bangriposhi in 2014 and 2019. From 2014 to 2017 he served as a Minister in Naveen Patnaik’s Council of Ministers in various departments.

In 2019 Marndi was inducted as a Cabinet Minister and was handling the portfolio of Revenue and Disaster Management.

Last year he was dropped from the Cabinet but after one year he has been inducted as a Cabinet Minister of School and Mass Education Department.
