Balasore: School & Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash ordered for withholding salary of the headmistress of Mahaveer Nodal School at Mathasahi in Balasore district as class-III students failed to recite multiplication table of 3.
The Minister directed the District Education Officer of Balasore district to issue show cause notices to the class teacher of the concerned class and the headmistress of the school.
He also ordered withholding the salary of the headmistress till the students are able to recite multiplication tables of up to 15.
Dash who was on a field visit to Mahavir Nodal School suddenly entered class III where students were being taught mathematics.
He asked a few students to recite multiplication table of 3 but none of the students could recite the multiplication table.
The Minister was visibly displeased with the sorry state of affairs as students failed to keep minimum standard of learning.
“I entered class-III when students were being taught mathematics. I asked a few students to recite multiplication table of 3. Not one I asked around five students. They all failed to recite. I was dissatisfied,” said Dash speaking to reporters outside the school.
The Minister said that he felt the headmistress had failed in her duties and responsibilities.
“I asked the DEO who was present to issue show cause to the class teacher. The headmistress was directed to ensure that the students learn multiplication tables up to 15 in 15 days. She has been issued with show cause notice. Until then her salary will be withheld,” he added.
