Bhubaneswar: A minor boy was charred to death at Durga Puja pandal near Sector-6 Telephone Bhavan in Rourkela on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Badal Maharana (12), son of Ajay Maharana of Sector-6, Vivekananda Palli.
According to reports, five children were playing at the Sector-6 Telephone Bhavan Durga pandal in the afternoon. Among them, Badal, who worked at a chicken shop in Sector-6 Market, was tragically charred to death. The other four children managed to escape and survive.
Upon being informed, Sector-6 police reached the spot, rescued the child, and sent him to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH). However, upon arrival at the hospital, Badal was declared dead by the doctor.
Fire personnel also reached the scene and doused the flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown and investigations are underway.
