Bhubaneswar: A minor boy drowned in a canal at Durgapur village under Jajpur Sadar police station in Jajpur district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Sek Muktar, a Class IX student of the Panchayat Government High School and resident of Jamadhara village.
According to reports, the canal in Durgapur village had collapsed due to heavy water flow following recent rains. To facilitate crossing, villagers had constructed a temporary bamboo bridge over the canal.
