Cuttack: A minor boy aged about 16 years drowned in Mahanadi while he was swimming in the river as a part of his daily training routine. The deceased, identified as Sohail Khan was a resident of Purbagachha under Jagatpur police limits.
Khan was a trainee at Nimapur Sports Club where he and many other youths are trained for physical activities like running, swimming etc. There were around 50 trainees who were swimming along with Khan in Mahanadi today, reports stated.
“Today morning he left home at 5:30 am and did not return. I lost my son. I think he had a very strenous run and got exhausted. He fell short of breath and could not swim back to the shore. No one went to rescue him,” Khan’s father said.
Local police rushed to the spot along with fire service personnel and after around two hours after Khan drowned, his body was retrieved from the river, the father of the deceased said. Police have registered a case in this matter and detained the coach.
