Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough nearly a decade in the making, Balasore police have rescued a minor boy from Delhi, nearly nine years after his father allegedly abducted him in 2016.
The accused, identified as Kamalakanta Mishra—the boy’s father—was apprehended in Delhi and brought back to Odisha. He has been forwarded to court, while the rescued boy has been handed over to his mother, Sima Satapathy.
According to police sources, Sima had filed a complaint in 2016 alleging domestic violence by her husband.
During the legal proceedings, Kamalakanta fled with their four-year-old son. Sima subsequently approached the court seeking custody of the child and claimed full responsibility for his care.
The court had then directed police to trace the missing child and hand him over to his mother.
After years of investigation, the Cyber Police recently tracked the accused to Delhi. Acting on the lead, a special team was dispatched by the Balasore police, resulting in the successful rescue of the child and the arrest of his father.
“A distress warrant and non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been pending against the accused for nearly a decade. Our team located the duo in Delhi and brought them back. A long-pending case has now been solved,” said Satyajit Naik, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Eastern Range while briefing the media.
