Balangir: A minor girl sustained severe injuries after a youth allegedly cut her throat at Mayarbaha village under Sadar police limits in Balangir district.
The accused youth reportedly has gone absconding, leaving the girl in a critical condition.
The victim, daughter of Ratna Bariha, lost a significant amount of blood and was taken to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital initially. As her condition deteriorated, she was later referred to Burla Medical College and Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Sadar Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Shockingly, the youth who carried out the attack has also consumed poison and is currently undergoing treatment at Patnagarh Hospital under police guard. He is likely to be shifted to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital for further care.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown, and police are trying to piece together the events surrounding the incident.
Although the identity of the accused youth has not been officially disclosed, the family members have mentioned that the youth belongs to a nearby village and is a distant relative of the girl’s mother.
