Bhubaneswar: A 14-year-old girl died in a road accident after being hit and dragged by a bus for nearly half kilometers on the Sonepur-Bolangir road near Gaintala tehsil in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Tuesday morning. The deceased’s father and sister were also severely injured in the mishap.
While the deceased has been identified as a resident of Brahmanipali village, the injured are undergoing treatment at the Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
As the news of the accident spread, tension prevailed in the area as hundreds of locals ransacked the bus and staged a roadblock demanding action against the driver and justice for the family.
According to reports, Binapani Pandey was on the way to Puintala block along with his two daughters to update their Aadhaar cards on a motorcycle. Binapani was riding the motorcycle and his daughters were sitting pillion.
When they were near Gaintala tehsil, a private bus coming from behind hit them. Under the impact of the collision, Binapani and his two daughters fell to the ground. One of his daughters came under the wheels of the bus and dragged her for a half kilometer leading to her death on the spot.
Locals rushed Binapani and his other daughter to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where they are battling for life.
Police reached the spot and started an investigation into the accident.
