Minor Girl Dies Due To Adulterated Lassi In Malkangiri, Two Held

Malkangiri: Police have arrested two people in connection with the hospitalisation of around 100 persons and the death of a minor girl after drinking lassi in the weekly market at Kurti village in Malkangiri district on May 1.

Reportedly, over 100 persons had been taken ill after drinking the lassi. Among them, a minor girl identified as Monika Madkami died while undergoing treatment at Podia Community Health Centre (CHC).

Subsequently, police arrested two persons selling the lassi. Preliminary investigation suggests that they had used rotten bananas and ice used for preserving fish for preparing the lassi. An investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of more persons.

Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari informed that a case in this regard has been registered at MV 79 Police Station. The lassi sample has been sent for forensic examination.
