Bhubaneswar: A minor girl became a victim of cyber fraud after ordering some items online. A complaint in this regard has been lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Cuttack.
Reportedly, the girl from the Naya Bazaar area of Cuttack had ordered some items from an e-commerce site. As the order arrived at her house in her absence, the parcel was received by her mother after paying Rs 400 in cash.
After the girl returned home and checked the parcel, she found some dirty clothes inside it. She contacted the delivery boy to return the item and demanded a refund.
The said delivery boy asked her to give a PhonePe number to transfer the said amount. As the minor girl did not have PhonePe, she gave the PhonePe number of a neighbour.
After giving the number, the neighbour received a link on the phone. The delivery boy asked the minor girl to click on the link to receive the money.
However, after the neighbour clicked on that link, Rs 19,000 was immediately debited from his account. Based on the complaint of the minor girl, Cyber Police have initiated a probe into the matter, said Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Kumar Mishra.
