**Berhampur**: A day after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed to the Assembly that rape cases increasing in the State, another gang rape case came to fore on Tuesday bringing more shame to the people of Odisha.
A minor girl was gang raped by her cousins after forcefully lifting from her home as her father had supported Congress in the recently concluded Panchayat elections.
The incident took place at Patrapur block in Chikiti area of Ganjam district.
According to reports, the accused are allegedly BJD supporters and they committed the crime after the girl’s father didn’t follow their dictates during the polls.
The matter came to light after the victim lodged complaint before Ganjam SP Asish Kumar Singh on Tuesday.
As per the complaint, four of her cousins on March 9 night forcefully took her from home to a nearest forest where they repeatedly raped her before releasing her on March 18.
They also threatened to kill her if she came out to public with the matter.
“They all raped me in the forest and threatened me to kill my parents and me if I inform it to anyone”, the minor victim narrated her ordeal with broken voice.
They gang raped me as my father had supported Congress as the accused, who are my cousins, belong to BJD, the victim further revealed.
Her father also echoed the same by saying the accused committed the crime over a political fallout.
“Five men had forcefully taken her to a jungle when she was sleeping near her mother on March 9 night and then they gang raped her there,” said father of the victim.
Meanwhile, SP Asish Singh has ordered the SDPO to probe into the incident.
“I have asked the Chikiti SDPO to investigate the matter. Action will be taken against the accused as per law”, Singh said.
