Bhubaneswar: Police arrested three persons in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in the Jujumara police station area of Sambalpur district on Sunday, police said.
According to Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, a case regarding the gangrape has been registered at the Jujumara police station. Acting swiftly, a police team led by the SDPO, Rairakhol, arrested three of the five accused named in the FIR lodged by the complainant.
The SP added that raids are being conducted at different locations to apprehend the two other accused who are still absconding. The crime was committed near the victim’s village on Sunday evening when the minor had gone to relieve herself, during which she was sexually assaulted.
Bhamoo further noted that some of the accused belong to the same village as the victim.
Police confirmed that the investigation is underway and further details will be revealed as the probe progresses.
