Bhubaneswar: In a devastating incident, a minor girl was killed and her parents were injured critically after the mud wall of their house collapsed on them at Kulumui village under Kalyansinghpur police station in Rayagada district on Saturday night.
The tragedy occurred last night when the family was asleep, and a portion of wall of their house collapsed, reportedly due to heavy rain weakening the earthen structure.
The girl succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while her parents were rescued by neighbours who rushed to the scene after hearing their screams. The couple has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital, where they are battling for their lives.
The region has been experiencing relentless downpour for last several days, which is said to have weakened the stability of the house, leading to the tragic outcome.
Till the last reports came in, no government officials reached the spot and inquired the matter.
